Fade guide

Low, mid or high

Every fade goes from the length on top to short at the bottom. The difference is how high the change starts. Look at the three pictures and say which one you want.

Side view of a caped client with a curly crop and a low fade
Low: the blend sits at ear level.
For a small change

Low fade

The change starts near the ear and leaves most of the side long. It is the most subtle and lasts longest between visits.

Side view of a slicked-back top with a skin fade and a trimmed beard
Mid: the blend rises to halfway up the side.
For a clean cut you can style

Mid fade

The change starts halfway up the side of the head. It shows more than a low fade and leaves room on top to style.

Side view of a high fade with a sharp hairline, in a barbershop
High: the blend reaches the temples.
For the most contrast

High fade

The change starts high, near the temples, and leaves the neck and sides very short. It gives the most contrast.

In the chair

What happens in the chair

  1. 01
    5 min

Step 1: We talk it through

You say low, mid or high and show a photo. The barber looks at how your hair grows.

  2. 02
    15 min

    Step 2: The base

Clippers, with the longest guard on top and the shortest at the bottom.

  3. 03
    15–20 min

    Step 3: The blend

The guards step up and down until you cannot see where the length changes. On a skin fade, the razor finishes the job.

  4. 04
    5–10 min

    Step 4: The finish

Line-up, sideburns and neck. We show you the result from the front and the back.

People who keep a fade up usually come back every two to three weeks.

How to ask

What to bring to the chair

With three things, the barber gets it right the first time.

  • A photo of what you want, from the side and the back

  • The word: low, mid or high

  • How often you plan to come back, to choose the length on top

Questions about the fade

How long does it take?

Between 40 and 55 minutes, depending on the length of your hair and whether it goes down to the skin.

Which one suits me?

If you are not sure, start with the mid. The barber tells you whether lower or higher suits your hair and your face.

Does it work on curly hair?

Yes. On curly hair the barber leaves the length on top that lets the curl fall right.

Can I ask for a barber?

Yes. When you book or on WhatsApp, say who you want to sit with. If you walk in, the board shows when it is your turn.

Book your chair

Booked or walked in, the fade is made the same way.
