The fade guide

What to ask for in the chair

A fade goes from the length on top down to short at the bottom, a little at a time. What changes is where it starts.

  • For a small change

    Low fade

The change starts near the ear and leaves most of the side long. It is the most subtle and lasts longest between visits.

  • For a clean cut you can style

    Mid fade

The change starts halfway up the side of the head. It shows more than a low fade and leaves room on top to style.

Side view of a slicked-back top with a skin fade and a trimmed beard
  • For the most contrast

    High fade

The change starts high, near the temples, and leaves the neck and sides very short. It gives the most contrast.
